Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about FOKIQ — from scoring and streaks to cognitive science and game modes.

General

What is FOKIQ?

FOKIQ is a free daily brain training game that challenges you across 6 cognitive domains: Pattern Recognition, Memory, Spatial Reasoning, Speed Processing, Logical Deduction, and Language Skills. Every day, all players get the same 5 puzzles and compete on global leaderboards.

How is my GRID score calculated?

Your GRID score is calculated from 5 puzzles, each worth up to 100 points (total max: 500). Each puzzle score combines Speed (60% — faster is higher) and Accuracy (40% — correct answers earn more). Combo multipliers (up to 1.8x) reward consecutive correct answers.

What are streaks and how do they work?

Streaks count consecutive days you complete the daily challenge. Milestones unlock at 3, 7, 14, 30, 50, and 100 days. You get 1 streak freeze that protects against a single missed day, with additional freezes earned every 7 days played (max 3).

How does the combo system work?

Each consecutive correct answer increases your combo. Starting at 2 correct in a row, you earn a multiplier: 2 combo = 1.1x, 3 = 1.2x, 4 = 1.3x, 5+ = up to 1.8x. Breaking the combo (wrong answer or timeout) resets it to 0.

What game modes are available?

FOKIQ offers 7 game modes: Daily Challenge (5 puzzles, global leaderboard), Practice (replay with fresh puzzles), Training (focus on your weakest domain), Endless (3 lives, increasing difficulty), Sprint (60-second time trial), Duel (challenge a friend), and Tournament (weekly 8-player brackets).

What is the MindMap?

The MindMap is a hexagonal radar chart showing your performance across all 6 cognitive domains. A perfectly balanced MindMap means you perform equally well in all domains. It helps you identify strengths and weaknesses in your cognitive profile.

How does adaptive difficulty work?

FOKIQ tracks your accuracy per domain and adjusts difficulty to target approximately 70% success rate. This is the optimal zone for learning — challenging enough to promote growth but not so hard that it is frustrating.

Is FOKIQ free?

Yes, FOKIQ is completely free with all features included. There are no premium tiers, no ads, and no paywalls. Every player has access to all 7 game modes, all 25 sub-modes, and all social features.

Can I play FOKIQ offline?

Yes. FOKIQ is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that works offline. Install it on your device for the best experience. Scores sync to leaderboards when you reconnect.

How are leaderboards organized?

FOKIQ has global, country, and city leaderboards. Your rank shows your position and percentile (e.g., "Top 15%"). Leaderboards update in real-time as players complete the daily challenge.

What are bonus rewards?

There is a 20% chance of earning bonus points on each correct answer. Bonuses include Speed Demon (+15), Perfect Recall (+12), Streak Master (+10), First Try (+8), and Lightning (+20). These bonus points add to your XP but not your GRID score.

How does XP and leveling work?

XP is calculated as: GRID Score + Bonus Points + (Max Combo × 5). Your level is determined by the formula floor(sqrt(totalXP/100)), creating a quadratic progression where each level requires increasingly more XP.

Pattern Recognition Training

What types of pattern puzzles does FOKIQ include?

FOKIQ features four pattern sub-modes: Sequence completion (predict the next item), Matrix reasoning (find the missing piece), Odd-one-out (identify the non-matching item), and Transform (predict shape transformations). Each adapts to your skill level.

How does pattern recognition training improve intelligence?

Pattern recognition is strongly correlated with fluid intelligence — your ability to reason abstractly. Training strengthens the neural connections in your prefrontal cortex, making you faster at identifying relationships and solving novel problems.

How long should I practice pattern recognition daily?

Even 5 minutes of focused practice (like one FOKIQ daily session) can be beneficial. Consistency matters more than duration — daily short sessions outperform occasional long sessions.

Can pattern recognition ability be improved at any age?

Yes! While pattern recognition naturally peaks in your 20s, research shows that cognitive training can improve performance at any age. The key is consistent, challenging practice.

What is the difficulty range for pattern puzzles?

FOKIQ pattern puzzles range from difficulty 1 to 10. The adaptive difficulty system adjusts based on your accuracy, targeting around 70% success rate for optimal learning.

How is my pattern recognition score calculated?

Your score combines speed (60% weight) and accuracy (40% weight) for each puzzle, with a maximum of 100 points per puzzle. Combo multipliers reward consecutive correct answers.

Memory Training Exercises

What memory exercises does FOKIQ offer?

FOKIQ includes four memory sub-modes: Symbol Recall (remember symbol positions), Sequence Replay (repeat sequences in order), Pair Match (find matching pairs), and Spatial Flash (remember which cells lit up). Each adapts to your skill level.

How quickly can memory training show results?

Most people notice improvements in 2-4 weeks of consistent daily practice. Brain imaging studies show measurable changes in neural efficiency within this timeframe.

Does memory training transfer to real life?

Yes — working memory training improves performance on tasks requiring attention, following instructions, and holding multiple ideas in mind. The key is consistent, challenging practice.

What is the best time of day for memory training?

Research suggests that memory encoding is strongest in the morning, while memory consolidation benefits from practice before sleep. FOKIQ's daily challenge can be played at any time.

How does the adaptive difficulty work for memory?

FOKIQ tracks your accuracy and adjusts difficulty to maintain a ~70% success rate — the sweet spot for optimal learning and growth.

Spatial Reasoning Training

What spatial puzzles does FOKIQ include?

FOKIQ offers four spatial sub-modes: Rotation (match rotated shapes), Mirror (find the mirror image), Fold (predict fold results), and Silhouette (identify 3D object outlines). Each scales from simple 2D to complex 3D challenges.

Why is spatial reasoning important for STEM?

Spatial reasoning allows you to visualize molecular structures, understand engineering diagrams, predict physical transformations, and think abstractly about mathematical concepts. Studies show it predicts STEM success as strongly as mathematical ability.

Can spatial reasoning be improved as an adult?

Absolutely. Meta-analyses show that spatial training produces large, durable improvements across all age groups. The effects are strongest with consistent, varied practice.

How does FOKIQ score spatial puzzles?

Spatial puzzles are scored based on speed (60%) and accuracy (40%), with a maximum time of 20 seconds per puzzle. Combo multipliers reward consecutive correct answers.

What is the fold prediction sub-mode?

Fold prediction shows you a flat pattern with fold lines and asks you to predict what shape it would create when folded. This exercises your 3D visualization ability.

Speed Processing Training

What speed exercises does FOKIQ include?

FOKIQ features four speed sub-modes: Odd One Out (rapidly identify the different item), Counting (quick numerical assessment), Change Detection (spot what changed between two scenes), and Rapid Sort (categorize items as fast as possible). Each has a 15-second time limit.

Does processing speed training reduce dementia risk?

The landmark ACTIVE trial (2,832 participants) found that processing speed training was the only cognitive intervention that significantly reduced dementia risk — by 29% over 10 years.

What is the time limit for speed puzzles?

Speed puzzles in FOKIQ have a 15-second maximum time — the shortest of any domain. This is by design: speed training requires genuine time pressure.

How do I improve my speed score?

Focus on accuracy first, then gradually push for speed. The scoring formula weights speed at 60% and accuracy at 40%, so fast wrong answers score lower than slightly slower correct ones.

Can processing speed be improved at any age?

Yes. The ACTIVE trial showed significant improvements in adults aged 65-94. Processing speed is one of the most trainable cognitive abilities at any age.

Logical Deduction Training

What logic puzzles does FOKIQ include?

FOKIQ offers four logic sub-modes: Grid Deduction (constraint satisfaction puzzles), Sudoku Lite (number placement with logic), Set Logic (categorization and grouping), and Balance (algebraic equality reasoning). Logic puzzles have the longest time limit at 30 seconds.

Why do logic puzzles have a 30-second time limit?

Logical deduction requires multi-step reasoning that naturally takes longer than pattern recognition or memory tasks. The 30-second limit gives you enough time to think systematically while still providing time pressure.

How does logical deduction relate to programming?

Programming is essentially applied logic. The same skills used in FOKIQ logic puzzles — conditional reasoning, constraint satisfaction, and systematic elimination — are the foundation of writing correct code.

What difficulty levels are available?

Logic puzzles range from difficulty 1 (simple two-step deductions) to difficulty 10 (complex multi-constraint problems requiring 5+ inference steps). The adaptive system targets your optimal challenge level.

Is logical reasoning the same as intelligence?

Logical reasoning is a strong component of fluid intelligence, but intelligence also includes pattern recognition, memory, processing speed, and creative thinking — that's why FOKIQ tests all six cognitive domains.

Language Skills Training

What language exercises does FOKIQ include?

FOKIQ offers five language sub-modes: Unscramble (rearrange letters to form words), Chain (connect words by association), Anagram (find words hidden in letter sets), Analogy (complete word relationship pairs), and Rhyme (match rhyming words). Each has a 25-second time limit.

How does language training differ from other domains?

Language is the only FOKIQ domain with five sub-modes instead of four, reflecting the richness of linguistic processing. It also has the unique property of improving with age — unlike other cognitive skills that tend to peak in your 20s.

Can word puzzles really improve language ability?

Yes. Research shows that word retrieval exercises improve verbal fluency scores, which are among the most clinically significant cognitive markers. Regular practice strengthens the neural pathways that connect meaning, sound, and spelling.

What is the time limit for language puzzles?

Language puzzles have a 25-second time limit. This provides enough time for retrieval and reasoning while maintaining the challenge of time pressure.

Are language puzzles good for non-native English speakers?

Absolutely. FOKIQ's language puzzles are excellent vocabulary builders and help strengthen word retrieval pathways regardless of whether English is your first language.
