The 10 FOKIQ Brain Types

A FOKIQ Brain Type is a short, behavioral label for which two of the six CHC-aligned cognitive domains scored highest in your last few sessions. Not a personality test. Not an IQ score. A friendly mirror on a small slice of cognition.

Quick Answer

A FOKIQ Brain Type pairs your two strongest of six cognitive domains — Pattern, Memory, Spatial, Speed, Logic, Language. Out of 10 possible pairings, 5 archetypes ship with cornerstone pages today: The Strategist, The Scholar, The Navigator, The Scanner, and The Architect.

What are Brain Types?

Brain Types are a UI affordance, not a psychometric instrument. They are designed to give you a memorable handle on your last few Daily runs so the feedback loop feels human rather than algorithmic. Underneath the label, the FOKIQ scoring engine ranks your performance across six domains: Pattern Recognition, Memory, Spatial Reasoning, Speed Processing, Logic, and Language. The two domains where your scores cluster highest determine which of 10 Brain-Type pairings you currently land in.

The framework that anchors the six domains is Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) theory, a meta-model synthesized from decades of factor-analytic studies of cognitive ability. CHC is currently the most widely-used theoretical organization of cognitive abilities in psychometrics, and it is what major IQ batteries (Woodcock-Johnson, KABC-II) are built around. FOKIQ borrows the six-domain organization but ships a much lighter instrument — five puzzles in two minutes — so the resolution is intentionally coarser.

How Brain Types are calculated

When you play FOKIQ, your performance is measured across six cognitive domains:

Pattern Recognition
Memory Recall
Spatial Reasoning
Speed Processing
Logical Deduction
Language Skills

Your two highest-scoring domains determine your Brain Type. The Polymath is the exception — it requires a balanced high score across all six. The signal stabilizes after roughly 7 Dailies; before that, your Brain Type may shift between sessions as the engine refines its estimate of your baseline.

What this is NOT

The FOKIQ Brain Type is a daily-puzzle distillation, not a personality test, not an IQ score, and not a clinical diagnosis. It does not correlate strongly with any standardized intelligence battery, it is not stable enough to function as a Big Five-style personality trait, and it has no published predictive validity for academic achievement, career success, or cognitive decline. The Daily samples five puzzles in two minutes — that is a useful instrument for mid-frequency feedback, not a comprehensive psychometric battery.

The Federal Trade Commission settled with Lumos Labs (Lumosity) in 2016 for $2 million over claims that brain-training products improve school performance, work performance, and everyday life, and protect against age-related cognitive decline. FOKIQ deliberately does not make those claims. We do not claim the Daily makes you smarter. We do not claim a particular Brain Type predicts career fit. We do not claim playing FOKIQ prevents dementia.

If you are experiencing memory, attention, or processing-speed problems that interfere with daily life, please see a licensed clinician. The Brain Type label is meant as a friendly mirror on a small slice of cognition — useful for understanding why your last Daily resolved the way it did, not useful as life advice or as a clinical screen.

Where to learn more

Each cornerstone page links to deeper material. The Cognition Bible is a 30-day series of single-question viewers grounded in primary-source psychology research; if you want to follow the citations behind a Brain Type, the Bible is where they live in full. The Glossary defines the underlying CHC terms — fluid intelligence, working memory, processing speed, spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, crystallized intelligence, metacognition. The Brain Type Evolution view shows how your own Brain Type has shifted across recent Dailies — useful for seeing how much variance is signal vs. noise in your case.

If you have not played yet, the fastest way to discover your current Brain Type is to start the FOKIQ Daily: five puzzles, two minutes, no signup required. After a handful of sessions you will have your first stable result.

Brain Types FAQ

What are FOKIQ Brain Types?

FOKIQ Brain Types are short labels for which two of the six CHC-aligned cognitive domains scored highest in your last few FOKIQ Daily sessions. The six domains are Pattern Recognition, Memory, Spatial Reasoning, Speed Processing, Logic, and Language. Your strongest two determine your current Brain Type. They are not personality traits, IQ scores, or clinical diagnoses.

How many Brain Types are there?

There are 10 FOKIQ Brain Types. Five of them have deep cornerstone pages with primary-source citations and behavioral profiles: The Strategist, The Scholar, The Navigator, The Scanner, and The Architect. The other five — The Analyst, The Reflex, The Visionary, The Communicator, and The Polymath — are documented at the type-card level today and will receive cornerstone treatment in a follow-up wave.

How do I discover my Brain Type?

Play the free FOKIQ Daily at fokiq.com. Each Daily samples five puzzles in two minutes across the six cognitive domains. After you have completed a few sessions, your strongest two domains determine your Brain Type. The result can shift between sessions — it is a snapshot of recent performance, not a fixed trait.

Can my Brain Type change?

Yes. Brain Types reflect your most recent Daily performance, not a stable underlying trait. Practice changes which domains feel sharpest; tiredness or distraction can shift the pair temporarily. Hartshorne and Germine (2015) found different cognitive abilities peak at different ages across the lifespan, so the Brain Type that is most common for you in your twenties is unlikely to be the same one that is most common for you in your sixties.

Which Brain Type is the rarest?

The Polymath is the rarest at about 4% of regular players. It requires balanced high scores across all six cognitive domains rather than two dominant ones. Polymath is not a "best" type — specialist types often outperform Polymaths in the specialist's dominant domains.

Is the FOKIQ Brain Type an IQ score or a personality test?

No. The Brain Type is neither an IQ score nor a personality test. It is a short, repeatable, behavioral label produced from a 2-minute puzzle Daily. It does not correlate strongly with any standardized intelligence battery, and it is not stable enough to function as a Big Five-style personality trait. The FTC settled with Lumos Labs in 2016 for $2 million over claims that brain-training products improve school, work, or life outcomes; FOKIQ deliberately does not make those claims.
