FOKIQ ("we," "us," "our") is a free daily brain puzzle game operated by Blue Snow Developers LLC. Our website is fokiq.com.

What Data We Collect

We collect as little data as possible. Here is everything:

Information You Provide

  • Email address — Only if you voluntarily subscribe to our newsletter. We store your email and the page you signed up from. That's it.
  • Nickname — If you choose to set a display name for leaderboards. This is optional.

Information Stored Locally (On Your Device)

Most of your game data stays on your device via localStorage and is never sent to our servers unless you opt into leaderboards:

  • Game scores, streaks, and puzzle history
  • MindMap cognitive profile data
  • XP, level, and achievement progress
  • Theme and accessibility preferences
  • Newsletter subscription status (to avoid re-prompting)

You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for fokiq.com.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Approximate location — Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) determines your approximate city from your IP address. We use this solely for city-level leaderboard rankings. We do not request browser geolocation permission or use precise coordinates.
  • Analytics — We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic patterns (page views, referral sources, device types). Google Analytics uses cookies. See Google's Privacy Policy for details on their data practices.
  • Web Vitals — We collect anonymous performance metrics (page load speed, interactivity) to keep the site fast. No personal information is included.
  • Server logs — Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may collect IP addresses, browser type, and request timestamps as part of standard web server operation. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

How We Use Your Data

  • Email — To send you our newsletter (cognitive science tips, puzzle strategies, product updates). You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email or contacting us.
  • Leaderboard data — To display your score, rank, and optional nickname on public leaderboards.
  • Analytics — To understand how people use FOKIQ so we can improve the puzzles and experience.
  • Web Vitals — To monitor and improve site performance.

What We Do NOT Do

  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • We do not serve ads or use ad-tracking pixels.
  • We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.
  • We do not require an account to play the game.

Cookies & Local Storage

FOKIQ uses Google Analytics Consent Mode v2. When you first visit, analytics cookies are blocked by default. We show a consent banner and only set analytics cookies if you click "Accept." If you reject, Google Analytics runs in cookieless mode — no identifying cookies are stored.

You can change your preference at any time via the "Manage Cookies" link in our footer.

Cookies

  • Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) — Set only after you accept the cookie consent banner. Used for anonymous traffic analytics. You can also opt out using Google's opt-out browser extension.

localStorage (Not Cookies)

We use your browser's localStorage to store game data locally on your device. This data is never sent to any server automatically. It includes:

  • fokiq_cookie_consent — Your cookie consent preference (accepted/rejected)
  • fokiq_streak, fokiq_profile — Game progress, streaks, and profile
  • fokiq_accuracy_history — Puzzle accuracy for adaptive difficulty
  • fokiq_theme, fokiq_muted — Display and sound preferences
  • fokiq_quests_*, fokiq_weekly_* — Daily quest and weekly challenge progress
  • fokiq_duel_*, fokiq_rivals — Duel and rivalry data
  • fokiq_install_dismissed — Whether you dismissed the install prompt

We do not use any advertising cookies, social media tracking cookies, or third-party marketing cookies.

Push Notifications

FOKIQ may ask for permission to send push notifications (daily puzzle reminders). This is entirely optional — you can decline or disable notifications at any time through your browser settings. We do not share your push subscription data with any third party.

Data Retention

  • Email addresses — Retained until you unsubscribe, at which point they are deleted.
  • Leaderboard scores — Retained indefinitely as part of the public game record.
  • Local game data — Stored on your device. Persists until you clear your browser data.
  • Analytics data — Retained per Google Analytics' standard retention policy (14 months by default).

Children's Privacy

FOKIQ is designed to be family-friendly and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The game can be played without providing any personal information. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal data we hold
  • Delete your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate personal data
  • Opt out of data collection (analytics via browser extension, email via unsubscribe, push notifications via browser settings)
  • Export your data in a portable format

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your data, and opt out of the sale of your information. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, contact us at the email below.

European Residents (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, our legal basis for processing personal data is:

  • Consent — For analytics cookies (via our cookie consent banner), email subscriptions, and push notifications (you opt in voluntarily).
  • Legitimate interest — For anonymous, cookieless analytics in consent-denied mode (understanding aggregate traffic patterns to improve the product).

You have the right to withdraw consent at any time (use the "Manage Cookies" link in our footer or contact us), lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority, and request data portability.

FOKIQ uses the following third-party services that may process data:

Delete My Data

You can delete all FOKIQ data stored on your device with one click. This removes all game progress, scores, preferences, streaks, and cognitive profile data from your browser. If you have a Supabase session, it will also be signed out.

This action cannot be undone.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We will not materially reduce your rights under this policy without giving you notice.
